Bilal ibn Rabah
Bilal ibn Rabah, often called “Bilal al-Habashi,” was of Ethiopian origin and is revered as one of the first African converts to Islam. Initially a slave in Mecca, he endured severe persecution for his newfound faith. Freed by Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), Bilal became known for his unwavering devotion to Allah and his beautiful, resonant voice, chosen by Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to deliver the first adhan (call to prayer). He played an important role in Islamic history, symbolizing steadfast faith and racial equality.
