Abu Jahl (Amr ibn Hisham)
Known by his epithet “Abu Jahl,” meaning “Father of Ignorance,” ‘Amr ibn Hisham was a prominent leader of the Quraysh tribe and a fierce opponent of Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). He was highly influential in Meccan society, using his wealth and status to persecute early Muslims. Abu Jahl played a major role in opposing the Prophet’s message, and his hostility persisted until the Battle of Badr (624 CE), where he was killed. His death was regarded as a significant turning point in the early Islamic era.
